Wow, this move is challenging, but my students surprised me and were able to do it without difficulty.

We started with an outside walk for the follower
a hand slide to an open break in which the leader is turning his back to the follower
a hand change to an interrupted inside turn
a right turn for the follower while the leader does a half hook turn
another open break in which the leader is turning his back to the follower
a surprise leader stepping perpendicular to partner to guide her a one turn an a half while the leader does a hook turn.

In this step we covered:
Men's half hook turn while turning the follow for a right turn
Open break with the leader's turning his back on the follower
Leader initiated an inside turn
that was interrupted and became a half turn
leader guided a free inside turn

In this video, we spoke about the first building block of salsa dancing, the basic step.

Here are 3 general points of the salsa basics.

1. The music is composed of eight musical beats. 1-2-3 (on the 4 we do a small stop) 5-6-7 ( on the 8 we do another stop)

2. The leader stars by stepping forward with his left foot, while the follower starts by stepping back with her right foot.

3. The basic can be done in either open (holding hands) or closed position.

In this video we worked on an outside turn for the follower
followed by inside turns and half turn.

In this video, we worked on a move that I call "half turn" which is in fact the beginning of an "inside turn" that gets interrupted right before the end and the leader bring the follower back to face him.

The crucial element of this move is start slowing the follower momentum as she is finishing her turn, stop her completely by 1-2-3 and bring her back to face him on 5-6-7.

This is an inside turn combination that flow well and puts many elements into play. We use this figure at the end of our salsa 1 program to prepare the students for more complicated patterns coming up in Salsa 2.
